Limited Lifetime Warranty
Warranty Coverage
Elements Supply, LLC d/b/a Umbra Solace (“Company” hereinafter referred to as Umbra Solace) expressly warrants to the original purchaser/owner (“Purchaser/owner”) that its aluminum extrusions will be provided with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and powder coat finish shall be devoid of defects in materials and workmanship for a duration of twenty (20) years from the date of purchase, subject to the terms and conditions defined herein.
This warranty does not encompass damages or defects resulting from:
Damage caused by handling, shipping after the initial receipt by the installer/owner of the product; damage to the finish caused by improper cleaning or handling; color variations on sublimated product (this is a natural result of the sublimation process and each piece of sublimated product will have unique characteristics, patterns, and color variations); damage resulting from acts of God, including but not limited to floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and lightning; damage resulting from terrorism, vandalism, or any other intentional damage; misuse, abuse, negligence, or accidents; damage resulting from prior repair or attempted repair; damage resulting from installation; damage resulting from black streaks, weathering, or normal fading/wear and tear; alterations or modifications to the structure post-installation; damage resulting from the use of unapproved attachments or accessories; damage from expenses incurred for removal and disposal; and damages caused by, among other things, weathering, oxidation, mold, mildew, or corrosive atmospheres.
Warranty Conditions
Materials must be properly installed and maintained according to Umbra Solace Specifications and Umbra Solace Warranty Care and Cleaning Instructions.
Extrusions are warranted against warping, buckling, corrosion, and manufacturing defects for the life of the product, provided they are installed in accordance with the Umbra Solace Specifications on a stable substrate or attachment point, and have not been moved from their original installation location. Warranty is void if the owner of record in the Original Sale and Warranty Registration has moved or no longer owns the property on which the materials were originally installed.
Finishes are warranted against cracking/checking, peeling, flaking, and blistering when under normal use for a period of 20 years from the date of installation. Even fading of color due to exposure to environmental elements is considered normal wear and is not encompassed by this warranty. Routine maintenance records must be kept, and any warranty claims must be presented.
Finish is not intended for highly corrosive environments. Atmospheric conditions that are unfavorable for the finish include air contaminated with corrosive elements. More frequent cleaning may be necessary in areas of high corrosion.
Umbra Solace Warranty Care and Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and performance of your aluminum shade structure, it is essential to maintain a regular cleaning schedule. The warranty provided by Umbra Solace is contingent upon the structure being maintained according to the environmental conditions it is exposed to.
| Category | Example Environment | Corrosivity Level | Required Cleaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| C1 | Dry-Indoors/Non-Hazardous | Very Low | Annually |
| C2 | Non-Hazardous/Arid and Urban Inland | Low | Annually |
| C3 | Coastal/Light Industrial | Medium | Bi-annually |
| C4 | Calm Sea-Shore/Light Industrial/Swimming Pools | High | Bi-annually |
| C5 | Surf-Seashore/Heavy Industrial | Very High | Quarterly |
| CX | Off-shore/Heavy Industrial | Extreme | Not intended for use in Extreme Areas |
If you are unsure what type of environment your shade structure will be exposed to, the Whole Building Design Guide provided by the National Institute of Building Sciences is an excellent tool to assist in the identification of your level. The ISO Corrosivity Category Estimation Tool (ICCET) is an interactive map that assists in classifying environments into different corrosivity categories, which can range from mild to very severe, based on factors such as:
- Proximity to salt water or industrial pollution
- Exposure to chemical substances
- Humidity levels
- Temperature variations
The interactive map is located here: https://www.wbdg.org/ar/tools/corrosion-toolbox/iccet
This guide does not account for swimming pools and all light industrial areas, which must be taken into consideration. Additionally, more frequent cleanings may be necessary if the structure is exposed to concentrated environmental contaminants. For questions and guidance, please contact Customer Support at support@umbrasolace.com. Failure to follow the recommended cleaning and maintenance schedule as per your determined corrosivity environment may void the warranty. Umbra Solace reserves the right to inspect the condition of the structure at any time during the course of a Warranty Claim to ensure compliance with these terms.
The owner must adhere to care and cleaning procedures as outlined in this warranty; otherwise, the warranty shall be deemed null and void.
Care and Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and beauty of your investment, please follow these care and maintenance guidelines:
Wipe down the surface with a soft cloth or sponge and mild detergent solution, PH Range 5-9. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads that may scratch the powder coat finish. Avoid the use of high-pressure sprays such as high-pressure washing. Only low-pressure washes should be used.
Avoid dragging or sliding objects across powder-coated surfaces, as this may cause scratches or abrasions.
Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners on powder-coated surfaces. Avoid contact with bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners, as they may damage the finish.
Periodically inspect the powder-coated finish for any signs of damage, such as chipping, flaking, or corrosion. Promptly address any issues to prevent further damage and maintain the integrity of the coating.
For minor scratches or chips, touch-up paint formulated for powder-coated surfaces can be used to repair damaged areas. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper application and curing of touch-up paint.
Establish and document a regular maintenance schedule to keep powder-coated aluminum products in optimal condition. Depending on environmental factors and usage, cleaning and inspection may be required quarterly, semi-annually, or annually, and even more frequently depending on environmental conditions.
Required documentation shall include:
- Person performing the cleaning and maintenance, and contact information,
- Date of cleaning.
- Method of cleaning, including:
- Type of cleaning unit (brush, cloth, pressure washer).
- Any soaps or chemicals used?
- Documentation of any failures noted, intentional damage, and installations of accessory items between cleanings.
